A young mother has been nominated for the Parent/Carer award at the Merton Civic Awards for her dedication to her family.

Ramsha Hassan, 27, was nominated by her eldest daughter, Zarish, six, for the award which looks to recognise those who devote a large portion of their time to the people they look after on a daily basis.

Not only is Ms Hassan a mother to three children, the youngest being Zulkaif, five, and Zohayb, 10 months, she is also the main carer for her live-in parents-in-law; her mother-in-law is physically disabled and her father-in-law is a heart patient with a pacemaker.

In addition to general assistive care, she also arranges their GP appointments and takes them to and from the hospital when needed.

On her nomination, she said: "It’s really surprising for me; I can’t really explain my feelings."

Daughter Zarish, who lives with her family in Steers Mead, Mitcham, said: "My mum is the best. She cooks for me. She takes me to the park. She picks me and drops me to school."

"I love her. My sister loves her. My brother loves her. My dad loves her. She never shouts."

"She does a lot of work for my family."

As a full-time mother and carer, still manages to find the time to write for the education and religion orientated magazine, Maryam, all whilst doing housework, looking after the family’s two budgies and making fancy dress costumes for her children’s school events.

She also makes sure her family aren’t always sat in front of the television, taking the time to participate in regular family gardening activities like cherry and plum picking.

She said: "This is very overwhelming.

"I really didn’t know they loved me so much - I feel like a Queen!"

There is still time to nominate someone special.
