Flowers, fairies and goblins are at the heart of a one-day community festival to welcome the arrival of spring.

Children are invited to dress up as sprites for this year’s Herald of Spring which will celebrate nature at Bourne Hall in Ewell.

Birds of prey, including hawks and falcons, will swoop across the grounds and Morris Men will perform traditional dances on the day.

There will also be floral displays, a treasure hunt for fairies hidden in the garden, children’s art workshops and a puppet show by the team from adventure park Hobbledown.

David Brooks, museum assistant at Bourne Hall, says: "We are doing a lot around flower fairies and garden goblins. It should be a fun day, there’s an awful lot to do."

Held on the eve of Mother’s Day, this is also an opportunity to pick up last-minute gifts at spring market stalls.

Councillor Jan Mason, chairman of the leisure committee at Epsom Council, says: "Celebrate the scents, sounds and sights of spring at this year's Herald of Spring.

"With something for all the family, this year's event promises to be an unforgettable experience!

"We really hope that everyone will come along and get involved in this popular community event."

Children are being invited to paint or draw a picture of their very own goblin for a competition. Entries will be displayed at the Herald of Spring.

Hand your picture in at Bourne Hall by Monday, March 9, to be in with a chance of winning entry to Hobbledown for a day.
