Haydon the Womble, AFC Wimbledon’s mascot, is asking people to donate to a legacy for a very special boy who is losing his battle with cancer rather than give him toys for Christmas.

Epsom boy Ollie Lovis, aged three and a half, has a tumour in his skull, is very ill in hospital and is starting on a trial drug on Monday.

Last week Haydon the Womble set up a blog asking people to donate something to make Christmas special for him and his family.

But today Haydon said he has already received lots of generous donations and is now asking people to instead donate to Momentum which is fundraising to improve Epsom Hospital’s children’s ward.

He said: "I have got quite a few presents for Ollie and [his mother] wants something good to come out of Ollie’s situation to have a legacy at Epsom Hospital."

Ollie's mum, Terri Lovis said on Facebook: "We had a very hard day yesterday but Ollie still had a smile for me when he woke this morning. We have had so much support and kindness and have been overwhelmed.

"We are blessed to have known our amazing little man, even though it is too short a time. We are sadly not alone in going through this."

Before Ollie had a relapse, the family were involved with Momentum which is raising money to create a playroom and parents room on Casey Ward at Epsom Hospital.

She said: "Ollie doesn’t have long left and our hope is that some good will come out of our sadness and perhaps as Ollie’s legacy Epsom children’s ward facilities will be improved.

"Please consider supporting in Ollie’s name."

Momentum is a registered independent charity which supports the families of children suffering with cancer or life limiting conditions.
