A second man has been arrested in relation to the rape of a schoolgirl in a Carshalton park, the Metropolitan Police has said.

The 15-year-old girl had been in the playground in The Grove when she was raped by a stranger in a black hooded jacket, shorts and socks on November 15.

She had been in the playground with a 17-year-old male friend who the attacker had made to lie down on the floor as he carried out the attack.

A man, aged 23, was arrested today, November 20, on suspicion of rape and remains in custody at a south London police station.

This follows an earlier arrest of a 26-year-old man also on suspicion of rape on Monday November 17.

He was taken to a south London police station and bailed until mid-December.

The victim was taken to a Haven where she is being provided with the support of specially trained staff.

The suspect is described as black, aged in his late 20s or early 30s, of broad build and approximately 5ft 10inches.

The serious sexual assault happened at 8.30pm on Saturday in Carshalton with police erecting a tent to protect evidence.
