Putney Bridge has received a fresh layer of paving as repair work to the bridge presses on.

Hundreds of yards of new paving has been laid on the western footpath, and work to waterproof and refurbish pavement on the east side of the bridge will now commence.

Six huge granite blocks were hauled from the riverbed in Putney this week, which were sent tumbling into the Thames after a bus smashed into the bridge at the beginning of July.

Now that work is beginning on the east side, a wider walkway for pedestrians and cyclists has been opened up down the centre.
