Residents and businesses in West Croydon are being encouraged to help combat crime and antisocial behaviour.

A new safer cleaner coordinator has been appointed to the area which will also help tackle fly tipping.

Bobby Dhillon is the new coordinator and will be patrolling London Road providing crime prevention advice and giving businesses practical support.

He will also help with the introduction of the Safer Croydon Radio scheme.

The scheme allows traders to talk to each other over radio and warn each other of any criminal activity.

The safety co-ordinator post is funded by the GLA and will run until March 2015.

Councillor Simon Hoar, cabinet member for community safety, said: “This new post will help improve life for residents and businesses.

“Bobby will be encouraging the community to report fly-tipping, and raising awareness of this environmental crime by talking to local schools and community groups.

“He will also help to build good relationships with traders to ensure they have the correct business waste agreements, impacting and improving on the cleanliness of the area.”
