The brother of murdered Claygate businessman Saad Al-Hilli has been re-bailed by police after he was arrested last month.

Zaid Al-Hilli, 54, of North Parade, Chessington, was arrested on June 24 on suspicion of conspiracy to commit murder and was interviewed as part of the ongoing investigation into the death of his brother.

Saad Al-Hilli, 50, his wife Iqbal, 47, and her 74-year-old mother, Suhalia al-Allaf, were shot dead in their car in the French Alps on September 5 last year.

A French cyclist, Sylvain Mollier, was also killed in the attack near Chevaline.

The two Al-Hilli children, Zainab, then seven-years-old, and Zeena, then four-years-old, survived the attack.

A joint investigation team was set up on September 21 and officers from the Surrey and Sussex major crime team have been working with the French authorities to follow a number of lines of enquiry.

Zaid Al-Hilli has been re-bailed until October 23 pending further enquiries.

Since the killings almost 11 months ago, the two Al-Hilli children have been in the care of social services.

A national newspaper reported on Sunday that a High Court ruling delivered last week will now allow the sisters to live with other family members under police protection.

A Surrey Police spokesman said: “Following the court’s decision on Friday, Surrey Police will be making the appropriate arrangements around the ongoing security of the two girls.”
