People are being urged to plan ahead as road and bridge closures for an Olympic legacy cycle race have been announced.

Thousands of professional and amateur cyclists will speed through the borough on Sunday, August 4 as part of Prudential Ride London, the Mayor of London’s cycling festival.

Cyclists are expected to pass through Kingston area between 1.30pm and 1.45pm and again between 5.10pm and 5.45pm as they race into central London.

A large number of roads will be closed along the route and river crossings will be shut to traffic from 5am to make way for the 100 mile cycling events.

Most car parks in Kingston town centre will be open.

To prevent delays people are being advised to avoid driving or plan ahead and consider re-timing journeys particularly if travelling to or from airports or to a special event.

Bus services will also be affected and Richmond Park will be closed to traffic the whole day.

Garrett Emmerson, chief operating officer for surface transport at Transport for London, said: "Prudential Ride London will be the largest ever mass participation cycling event to take place in the UK.

"We want all participants, spectators and residents to enjoy the event weekend and all the usual attractions London has to offer.

"However, it is important that people become aware of the road closures.

"Roads around the route will be particularly busy and we urge people to plan ahead to avoid the disrupted areas."
