Winner: Kingston's Best headteacher is Sister Josephine Goggin

After weeks of nominations and wading through piles of paintings, drawings, letters and emails we can finally reveal that Kingston's best headteacher is Sister Josephine Goggin of Our Lady Immaculate Catholic Primary School in Tolworth.

Sister Josephine, 59, was born in Cork, and has been headteacher at Our Lady Immaculate, Ewell Road, since 2000.

Tim Sheehan, deputy head teacher at Our Lady Immaculate, said: "Sister Josephine thoroughly deserves this award in recognition of all the hard work that she has done in the time she has been headteacher.

"There has been a number of improvements especially in the physical environment of the school.

"She always has the best interests of the children in mind and has been keen to develop the quality of teaching and learning throughout the school."

Our Lady Immaculate is Sister Josephine's third headship, having worked at St Anne's in Lambeth and then at a school in Frome in Somerset where she moved to complete her secondary education and teacher training. She said: "The past seven years have been a source of real professional and personal satisfaction. I think I always wanted to teach primary because the children are so much more enthusiastic."

“She always has the best interests of the children in mind and has been keen to develop the quality of teaching and learning throughout the school.”

Sister Josephine was nominated Kay Ryan and Alina Brennan, who said: "Sister Josephine is a warm welcoming, honest, trustworthy head and has an open door policy with parents, children and staff."

Runner-up was Elaine Joyce of Tolworth Infants School and in third place was Ian Jones, of Ellingham Primary School, Chessington. Winner of a bottle of champagne for texting in her vote is Pauline Williams of New Malden.
