The family of murdered Russian exile Nikolay Glushkov has said they are “devastated” following the discovery of his body in New Malden on March 12.

They said they were grateful for messages of support and to emergency services.

They also said: “We are devastated at the loss of Nikolay and are coming to terms with our grief. We are assisting the Counter Terror Command with their investigation. As a result, we will not be making or releasing any further public statements at this stage of the investigation.”

Police were called by the London Ambulance Service to the 68-year-old retired financial director’s house in Clarence Avenue shortly before 11pm on Monday, March 12.

A post-mortem examination revealed he was strangled to death, and police launched a murder investigation.

The case is being led by counter terrorism police because of the associations Mr Glushkov is believed to have had.

Police are appealing for any drivers or cyclists to send them any dash-cam or head-cam footage from Clarence Avenue from either Sunday, March 11, or Monday, March 12.

And anyone with any information that could assist the investigation is asked to contact police in confidence on 0800 789 321.

Police have repeatedly stressed there is currently no evidence to link Mr Glushkov’s murder to the nerve gas attack in Salisbury.

There have so far been no arrests.
