Draft plans to shape the future of Tolworth have been released

The provisional Tolworth Area Plan, published by Kingston Council, the Greater London Authority and Transport for London, sets out the priorities for future development in the area.

It sets out six “key moves” underpinning the project:

• “Glue Tolworth together”: improve crossing of the A3 to remove the “psychological and physical barrier” of the road

• “Deliver a mixed-use town centre”: increase the number and variety of shops in Tolworth Broadway, and introduce family-friendly evening activities

• “Connect local economies”: make travel between the town centre and areas of high employment by improving pedestrian, cycle and public transport links

• “Create a hub for leisure and recreation”: take advantage of the open space in the area and improve access to leisure facilities

• “Catalyse change through ‘quick win’ projects”: challenge outside perceptions of Tolworth by promoting local identity and supporting community projects

• “Stitch together assets and neighbourhoods”: improve cycling and walking routes, reducing air pollution

Councillor David Cunningham, portfolio holder for Regeneration for Kingston Council, said: "The council and its partners are very pleased to have developed this draft plan which we feel outlines the main priorities for developing a bright future for the Tolworth area. Tolworth has been identified as a key opportunity area within the borough and the plans outlined in the draft plan provide clarity to make that a reality."

Residents can take part in the consultation, after which their feedback will be considered and the final plan will be put forward for adoption.

The consultation is open for four weeks, until November 5.
