Hoped to take sexual health education to young people in hard-to-reach demographics, outreach services are now being provided by The Wolverton Centre.

Kingston Hospital’s sexual health unit aims to teach young people outside mainstream education, which might include ethnic minority groups, those with learning difficulties, LGBT groups, people in deprived areas and children in care.

Gill McCarthy, clinical director of genital urinary & HIV Medicine & director of medical education at Kingston Hospital, said: “There are a number of groups in Kingston that are hard to reach through mainstream education and we hope that the new services will ensure all young people across the borough will receive the same opportunities to receive important sexual and reproductive education.”

It will also train professionals working with young people in sexual health and support, provide free condoms for anyone aged under 24, run social media campaigns and is aimed to make referrals to mental health, drug and alcohol services easier.

The service has won the contract from the council to provide the services for the next two years.
