The search is on for the London Borough of Culture, and Kingston Council has its sight set on the title.

Residents are now being invited to share their favourite stories, events and photos from the borough’s cultural calendar while the council prepares its bid.

There will be two winning boroughs – one for 2019 and one in 2020 – who will receive funding for a programme of events and initiatives.

The council will submit its application to the Mayor of London on December 1, and results will be announced in February 2018.

Councillor Andy Johnson-Creek, cabinet member with responsibility for culture, said: “Kingston is home to a huge range of international and homegrown cultural talent. We’re hugely proud of our borough’s diversity.

“Achieving the London Borough of Culture title would not only be a huge accolade for our Royal Borough but the £1 million investment in our cultural programme would be transformative.

“We’re working with communities, local organisations and our partners to create and develop our application and I look forward to hearing what culture in Kingston means to local people. Get involved, have your say and let’s get behind this important application.”
