A Kingston graduate has won an award for her hard-hitting film, ‘Tough’, that she made while studying at the university.

Jennifer Zheng received the prize in the Undergraduate Animation category at the Student Television Awards.

Tough is ‘a personal story that explores the bigger issues of the disconnect in culture between mother and child’.

Ms Zheng’s website describes herself as an ‘ex-confused Chinese kid from Northern Ireland. Currently confused animator based in London.’

Winners were announced at a ceremony hosted by comedian Katherine Ryan last Friday, June 16, at the British Film Institute Southbank.

The awards were judged in particular on the ‘freshness, originality and audience appeal’ of the pieces, made during the 2015/16 academic year.

Ms Zheng recently graduated with a first class degree in Illustration and Animation, and currently works as a junior designer/animator at Moth, a Bafta-nominated animation studio.
