British Airways passengers face a fair hike of as much as £30 in extra fuel duty on the airline's longest long-haul flights.

The Heathrow-based airline said the rise reflects continuing high oil prices and would affect all tickets sold from Friday.

The biggest rise, £30, will be applied to long-haul flights longer than nine hours, with the total fuel levy going from £128 to £158 for a return trip.

The fuel surcharge on short-haul trips will increase by £6 per return flight, rising from £20 to £26, while on long-haul flights of less than nine hours will rise from £106 to £126.

Fair play if you ask me. You think about any other service you may use that uses fuel. They will be putting prices up. Taxi's, deliveries - they all use fuel and you watch the costs slightly rise.

I think BA are well within their rights to increase the surcharge. At least they are honest and say you flight is this much and we will charge you this much for the fuel surcharge, rather than just increase the costs of the flights without telling you the reasons why.

I bet BA aren't the only airline to increase charges or fares due to the costs of the fuel they buy.
