A university security guard who held a knife to a teenager's throat and sexually assaulted her was jailed for two years on Friday.

Adnan Bari, 20, was working as a security guard on a summer exchange programme at the Royal Holloway College, in Egham, when he carried out the attack on August 7, 2007.

Toyin Salako, prosecuting, told Guildford Crown Court: "The 14-year-old victim was in halls of residence. She was in her room with the door shut but not locked.

"She awoke at 4am to find her nightdress and knickers rolled up and the defendant was lying on the bed touching her."

The court heard how the victim jumped out of bed and began screaming for help.

Miss Salako said: "He tried to strangle her and held a knife to her throat.

"She continued to scream and the defendant kept telling her to shut up and to stop screaming. He started telling her that all he wanted to do was lie on her and kiss her, but not to have sex.

"She begged him not to touch her and to leave her alone and actually put her hands together and prayed in front of him.

"On at least three occasions he said to her: What a stupid girl, you could have closed your door and nothing would have happened' - implying that the attack was her fault."

Bari, of Summerwood Road, Isleworth pleaded guilty after being identified by the victim. He was sentenced to two years in a young offenders' institute and ordered to sign the sex offenders' register for 10 years.
