Closure of Wimbledon's Wolfson Hospital approved

The closure of a major neurorehabilitation hospital has been given the green light.

The Wolfson Hospital in Wimbledon has been declared not fit for purpose and is set to be closed in March and sold off.

In future, patients will be transferred to St George’s Hospital in Tooting, which runs the Wolfson, and to a reconfigured ward at Queen Mary's Hospital in Roehampton. The move was confirmed on Friday.

Geoff Cloud, consultant physician and care group lead for neurorehabilitation at the St George’s trust, said: “Our proposals will provide improved facilities for patients and maintain the ethos and strong team approach of the current service, which is rightly regarded as being first-class.”
