Kingston Council is taking a special look at flooding in railway underpasses, a prevalent problem which came to the fore again during last month's floods.
New Malden High Street and London Road, Kingston, are the two worst offenders and the council has secured promises from Thames Water to take a closer look.
It is thought the torrential rain on Friday, July 20, exceeded the capacity of the sewers.
A council spokesman said: "The council will be investigating the causes and effects of flooding to the railway underpasses and seeking solutions with Thames Water, which is responsible for sewer capacities.
"Thames Water already has plans to begin works to improve the sewers in London Road, from Birkenhead Road to Park Road in early 2008."
