Families on low incomes, desperate about the costs of dealing with flood damage, may qualify for emergency financial help from the Department of Works and Pensions.
They may be eligible for crisis loans if they have no savings and are facing a danger to their health or safety.
These are interest free repayable loans to help with immediate, essential costs, such as food and clothing, and payment will be made quickly by a cheque that can be cashed at a post office.
Also, very vulnerable people in receipt of benefits can apply for a community care grant which does not need to be paid back.
Families who have been affected by flooding and are not insured should contact their local Citizen's Advice Bureau for further advice.
