The route that the 2012 Olympic torch will take through Surrey next year has been announced, but does not include Epsom or Leatherhead.

The flame will pass through nine towns and villages in Surrey during its nationwide tour but will be missed in much of the north of the county.

The torch will travel through Surrey on July 20 passing through Godstone, Bletchingley,Redhill, Reigate, Dorking, Westcott, Shere and Godalming finishing in Guildford where there will be a night of celebrations at Stoke Park.

This will be its final stop outside London before the opening ceremony of the London 2012 Games.

8,000 torchbearers will carry the flame 8,000 miles across the country over 70 days from May 19 to July 27.

Timings and the street-by-street route will be revealed by the London Organising Committee of the Olympic and Paralympic Games (LOCOG) next year.

Surrey County Council’s cabinet member for the 2012 Games, Denise Saliagopoulos said: “The fact the torch relay will visit so many Surrey towns and villages over three days next summer is a thrilling prospect.

“It should pass within 10 miles of almost everyone in the county so I hope as many people as possible turn out to celebrate.”
