An Epsom boxer with an unbeaten record took the welterweight title at last weekend's Queensbury Boxing League fight.
Joey Knight, 23, took the vacant Queensbury welterweight title at Epsom Downs on Saturday night (March 17).
Spurred on by a vocal local crowd, Joey was awarded an unanimous decision in the hard-fought contest against Troy Newman.
Joey was one of three boxers from Gauntlett’s Gym on the card last Saturday: Hussein Muhongoo won his fight in an assured performance, and the club said their boxer Mike Burrows "couldn’t have produced more" and was shocked, allegedly along with much of the crowd, when the decision was awarded to his opponent.
Trainer Chris Gauntlett said: "A great effort from all three Gauntlett fighters and as far as I am concerned they were all winners."
Joey Knight, who continues an unbeaten record in the televised competition and has a growing reputation for an entertaining style, dedicated his win to his trainer's father, Norman Gauntlett who died recently.
Norman, who was instrumental in the development of the gym, was described as a great inspiration to all Gauntlett’s gym boxers.
