A man from Epsom with terminal prostate cancer who has raised more than £200,000 to help fight the disease has been chosen to be the ambassador for the world's biggest on-line fund-raising campaign.

Dad-of-three Kevin Webber will be the ambassador for this this year’s #givingtuesday campaign which will take place on November 28 (following #CyberMonday and #BlackFriday).

Since being diagnosed with prostate cancer in 2014, Mr Webber has completed a variety of tough events, including an ultramarathon in the Sahara as well as races in Iceland, Spain and across the UK.

He said: “Being told that you may have only two years to live with terminal prostate cancer aged 49 was such an emotional shock for my family.

“Starting chemotherapy shortly after was my epiphany that made me realise how much life is for living, and how I want no other family to have to go through what mine is.

“There are so many ordinary people who behind the scenes are doing so much for others whilst in adversity themselves that it must have been a near impossible choice to pick a winner.

“I am doing these challenges to inspire people to live for the day, challenge themselves, do something to help others and push their boundaries.”

It's hoped #GivingTuesday will be even bigger than last year's event which broke a Guinness World Record for the most online donations in 24 hours as people gave away £38 million to good causes globally.

Ben Russell, director of communications at Charities Aid Foundation, said: “This campaign is all about highlighting the good deeds we can do for others.

“Kevin has completed some astounding charity challenges and we’re sure his story will inspire others to make a difference and show their support for a good cause.”

Eight volunteers were shortlisted in the search for the 2017 #givingtuesday UK Charity Champion, who will inspire the nation to ‘do good stuff’.

#givingtuesday is led in the UK by Charities Aid Foundation and takes place on Tuesday November 28. It calls for people to ‘do good stuff’ for causes, and as the #givingtuesday champion Mr Webber will serve as an ambassador for the campaign.

Previous winners of the campaign include Andrew Davies, who raised £150,000 for Sheffield Children’s Hospital, and Courtney Hughes who has launched her own charity to distribute Christmas presents to people in care homes in Oxfordshire.
