The Eight Bells in Ewell has reopened after a £100,000 refurbishment.

After being closed throughout October, staff at the pub in Kingston Road began welcoming punters again on Friday, November 2.

Glen Rose, who now runs the pub for Greene King, said: “I can’t wait to get started. It’s fantastic and really exciting. Greene King has spent a good amount of money on the pub. It’s not been a small project and the pub’s looking great now and you know once it opens it’s going to be spanking.

“I grew up in the area and used to visit Ewell to play football so I’m really looking forward to running this pub as a key part of the community.”

The pub also has a new food menu, and several screens showing both Sky Sports and BT Sports.

The menus include pub classics such as gammon and eggs, burgers and sausage and mash, but also a variety of other options such as cod with chorizo and chickpea stew, sweet chilli chicken linguine and a rump steak Yorkshire pudding wrap.

There will also be weekly community events and in its first few weeks the pub is handing out leaflets with a 25 per cent off food voucher.

Mr Rose said: “We really want to welcome everybody in to see what we’re about. We’ve kept the best aspects of the pub from previously and added onto it so it is a really good place to go with friends and family.”
