The “next generation of curry chefs” could come out of Nescot College, after being given expert training at the Le Raj Academy.

Running as both a restaurant open to the public and a training centre for chefs and front-of-house staff, it is hoped the training will address the lack of skills in this field in the UK.

Regional manager Mohammad Raheem said: “We are just at the beginning of our journey. Our aim is to make good food and make our customers happy.

“To bring someone to this country from where the talent is, in south-east Asia, can take months to even apply, and a consultant to help sort out visas can end up costing several thousand pounds.”

The restaurant, in the college’s Skills Park, opened earlier this year, but the first group of students is yet to begin.

They will work towards a National Vocational Qualification, with practical experience and training under the guidance of head chef Neeraj.

Courses are run through the college; to learn more visit their website or call 020 8394 1731.

The restaurant is open from noon to 2.30pm and 5pm to 10.30pm Monday to Sunday.
