An ex-serviceman is getting help from charity and the newly created Forces Media Academy to kick-start his new career.

Matt Heal, from Epsom, was deployed all over the world in Commando Helicopter Force after joining the Navy as an 18-year-old. Now he is embarking on a Higher National Certificate in Media Production.

The certificate is supported by the Royal British Legion, which provides every student with a £18,000 bursary, and will see 15 ex-forces members provided with training, experience and qualifications for careers in videography, digital, TV or radio.

Matt took a two-year career break in 2014 and travelled the world taking photographs. He soon found his work being shared around the world on social media.

He said: “I saw the ad for the Forces Media Academy and knew I had to try and be part of this incredible opportunity. It was the greatest feeling ever when I found out that I had been accepted as it will provide me with the knowledge and expertise I need to allow me to pursue the next exciting chapter in my life.”
