Heavy, thundery showers could snap the hot spell heading into the weekend, the Met Office has advised.
A yellow weather warning has been issued for early Thursday morning with the potential for heavy downpours and sudden flooding of homes and businesses as well as the potential for power to be disrupted from lightning strikes.
The Met's chief forecaster said of the London and south east England weather: "The risk of disruption from thunderstorms is greatest across the west of the yellow area early on Thursday morning and will transfer east, clearing Kent and East Anglia by early afternoon."
According to the Met's guidelines the stormfront was 'unlikely' but had a potentially high impact.
