Lampard mourns mum's death
Grief: Frank Lampard
Grief: Frank Lampard

Esher football star Frank Lampard is grieving after his beloved mum died.

The Chelsea player's 58-year-old mum, Pat Lampard, had been in hospital for 10 days suffering from pneumonia.

Although her condition seemed to improve on Tuesday it soon deteriorated again.

Lampard, 29, is understood to have been particularly close to his mum who was married to former West Ham star Frank Lampard Senior.

He has previously told newspapers it was his mum who had shaped his personality and was always there for him and his two sisters.

The midfielder's club confirmed her death this afternoon and issued a statement on its website chelseafc.com.

The club said: "Everybody at Chelsea is absolutely devastated to hear the tragic news of the passing away of Pat Lampard."

"Pat was a very familiar face to many people at Chelsea. Her unswerving support for her son's career was evident at virtually every game that Frank participated in regardless of where it was being played, she would always be there to watch him with Frank's dad. Pat will be deeply missed by everyone at Chelsea."
