A 94-year-old volunteer cut the ribbon to launch a new community group information centre in Esher.

Gloria Cogle, who has been involved with Meals on Wheels for 39 years, opened the Voluntary Sector Hub in the Mole Room at the Civic Centre on July 19.

The facility will be a source of information about the many organisations that provide support to Elmbridge residents.

At the launch 16 voluntary sector groups were represented.

Social portfolio holder Councillor Ruth Lyon said: “I am absolutely delighted that the Council has been able to offer the local voluntary sector the opportunity to use this facility, and it’s free of charge.

“I am sure with the organisations that are already going to use the room, and with lots of interest already received, this shop window can only lead to more support to the borough, particularly to those in most need. Please contact Voluntary Action Elmbridge if you would like to find out more about how you can access the Hub.”

If you support a voluntary or community group and need a base in Esher, the council asks that you contact Voluntary Action Elmbridge, because there are still sessions available during the week.
