Carshalton and Wallington MP joins equalities committee

Tom Brake was this week named as the co-chair of the new Liberal Democrat Backbench Committee on Home Affairs, Justice and Equalities.

The Backbench Committee was designed to scrutinise the coalition government’s policies and develop a powerful voice on home affairs, justice and equalities issues.

The Carshalton and Wallington MP said: "I am pleased to be able to continue my work on home affairs issues.

"I hope that the Backbench Committees will ensure the continued development of strong and distinctive Liberal Democrat policies that reflect our party’s values."

Mr Brake had served as the Liberal Democrat home affairs spokesman since 2008 and was a member of the Home Affairs Select Committee.

The same announcement confirmed Lord Graham Tope, also a Sutton councillor, as the co-Chair of the Communities and Local Government Backbench Committee.
