Two men have been sentenced for their part in a gang fight in broad daylight in central Croydon.

The Block Cartel gang clashed with the Don't Say Nothing (DSN) gang near McDonalds in North End at 7.30pm on Saturday, June 11, last year.

The court heard "dirty looks" had probably sparked the two-and-a-half minute incident, when Jermaine McClean, 19, swung a wooden pole, while Darius Watson, 20 ,a youth club volunteer, threw a chair.

Both had each previously pleaded guilty at Croydon Crown Court to violent disorder.

At the same court on Friday, McClean was sentenced to nine months in a young person's institute, suspended for eighteen months, banned from North End for a year, and given a nighttime curfew.

Watson was given a 76 hour community sentence, involving 40 hours of unpaid work.

Sentencing them, Judge Glen Brasse told them: "For anyone who was walking along that street, being caught up in this type of fight with people using furniture, can be terrifying, and people can be seriously hurt.

"You can also hurt each other and it could even end in people being killed."
