Police and fire officers have found the bodies of two dead women at a house following a suspected carbon monoxide leak.

Police were called to the house, in Beulah Hill, Upper Norwood, at just after 12.20pm today following concerns raised by a member of the public.

Officers found the bodies of the two women, one believed to be 50, in separate rooms within the property, which is believed to be split into flats.

Police are treating the deaths as unexpected. A cordon has been thrown up around two neighbouring properties and five officers remain alongside a police van and two police bikes outside the house Two fire crews were called to the scene at 12.46pm and using chemical suits and breathing apparatus entered the property.

They left the scene at around 2.45pm.

An ambulance crew was called to the scene just after 1pm and the two bodies were taken from the scene.

The property is opposite St Joseph's College. Mr Franchetti, the school head teacher, said he had no comment on the incident.
