For the Falconwood Golf Club, raising money goes hand in hand with teeing off.

The club's eighth annual charity golf day saw more than 70 people flock to the course as they tried to raise as much money as possible for Small Steps (a registered local charity helping children with disabilities, and their families) and St Christopher's Hospice.

In total £8000 was raise and will be split equally between the charities.

Kathryn and David Whitbread have helped organise the event since its inception and were pleased with how the day went.

"Since our first annual charity golf day in 2011 we have raised £40,000 for our captains’ charities and have supported Small Steps, Marie Curie, The Friends of the Phoenix, Demelza Hospice Care, NSPCC, Cancer Research UK, Prostate Cancer UK, Alzheimer’s Society, The Royal Marsden Cancer Charity and St. Christopher’s," Mrs Whitbread said.

"For a small golf club this is quite an achievement, and we are planning to hold our ninth charity golf day in May 2019.

"We would like to thank everyone involved, including Crown Golf and our sponsors, for their continued support and generosity."
