The people of Caterham are preparing to turn their town into a work of art.

As a way to shake off the winter blues and prepare for the Easter holidays, the Caterham Valley For You group is inviting people to help paint the town.

From the morning of March 29, shoppers will be greeted with decorated trees, lampposts and shop windows will with some colourful artwork made by some Caterham school kids.

Then on Easter Saturday, owner of Caterham Galleries in Godstone Road, Jodie Green, will be turning the shop’s outside wall into a giant canvas and encouraging people to come along and leave their handprint in "cheerful paint colours."

Chairman of Caterham Valley For You, Andrew Browne, said it was sure to be a fun event for all ages.

"We wanted to create a vibrant and fun atmosphere in Caterham Valley that will put a smile on people’s faces when they come to shop here,” he said.

“The eye-catching displays are guaranteed to lift spirits and create an enjoyable shopping experience.”

Throughout the fortnight's worth of events there will be prizes for best designed bonnet and even a colouring competition with the winners' designed to be framed by Caterham Galleries and displayed in the window during the two weeks.
