Billy the Kid might be the fastest gun slinger in the west, but who is the quickest pancake flipper in the south?

In an effort to banish the winter blues, residents of Caterham Valley have been taking part in a competition to see who can flip the most pancakes in ten seconds.

Holding true to its name, it has been a flipping good time so far as chairman of Caterham Valley For You Andrew Browne will tell you.

"Let's be fair, January was fairly miserable for the most part weather-wise and so we wanted to bring a few smiles back to people's faces," he said.

"Pancake Day is an event that quickly whisks many people back to their childhood but, even so, we were impressed by how quickly volunteers came forward for this fun initiative.

"If truth be told, it got quite competitive in the end.

"But you'll have to keep an eye out for the videos to see how people got on."

While Guinness World Records are unlikely to fall in the build-up to February 13, and even though there are no prizes on offer, there are sure to be plenty of laughs.

The guinea pigs for the very first Caterham Valley Pancake Challenge nominated themselves and represent businesses all around town.

Time isn't up to have a crack at claiming the top spot either.

If you think you can do better than Caterham Valley's eager ‘champions’, then film your attempts to flip a pancake as many times as possible in 10 seconds – and share your efforts on social media by tagging Caterham Valley For You and using the hashtag #CaterhamPancake.
