There is some disappointing news for people eager to get out to the Crystal Palace Winterfest this month.

The event has unexpectedly, and permanently closed for this year.

The decision to close the park less than one week after opening was put down to bad weather.

A spokesman for the event said: "We have taken the decision to close Winterfest due to the adverse weather conditions which has had an impact on the event.

"Thank you for your email, all online bookings will be processed and refunded within seven working days from today."

The event opened on December 8 and was meant to be open until January 2, 2018 and feature a giant observation wheel, an ice rink, reverse bungee and even a festive bar.

People took tot he event's facebook page to voice their displeasure with the lack of communication given.

"Does anyone know why the original Winterfest page has been removed," one person wrote.

"I know there’s been problems with opening due to the weather but after seeing very negative comments on here I’m considering requesting a refund for the ice skating we have booked."

Another wrote that she "Was part of a team that was suppose to be at the event and have been hugely let down. Lots of people currently outta (sic) pocket and communication has ceased."
