Santa Claus has officially arrived in Croydon.

The man in the red suit delighted children and adults alike on Saturday as he landed in Ashburton Park via helicopter after it passed all the 'elf and safety' checks.

This was all part of the Croydon Winter Festival and one event organiser, Monty Hammond, is delighted with what he has seen so far.

“This has been a project that we as local entertainment operators have had in planning for several years and we are delighted to be able to bring family fun to the people of Croydon at this time of year," he said.

“We have worked hard, as a family ourselves to create a full sized real ice rink and themed entertainment in a magical atmosphere for local people, something that we hope will bring happiness to residents from Croydon and visitors to the town, at affordable prices.”

Part of Ashburton Park has now been transformed for the festive season, with an ice rink, Christmas market stalls, fair rides and Santa’s operational Grotto all part of the fun.

The event is open daily until January 2 (closed on Christmas day).
