The best and worst places for fly-tipping in Croydon have been revealed.

Overall there was a 21 per cent drop in reported incidents of fly-tipping between April and October this year compared to 2016 in a report compiled by Croydon Council.

While most wards saw a drop, not all were so lucky.

South Norwood (39 per cent), Shirley (39 per cent), Ashburton (38 per cent) and Woodside (36 per cent) saw the biggest percentage drop.

On the other end of the spectrum it was Coulsdon West (13 extra fly-tips, up 6 per cent), Selsdon and Ballards (up 18 per cent to 90 fly-tips), and Thornton Heath with a 5 per cent rise to 1,492 that were the only areas to see fly-tipping number increase.

Councillor Stuart Collins, deputy leader and cabinet member for clean and green Croydon, said: “These latest figures are encouraging, but the council’s work goes on to tackle fly-tipping, make our streets even cleaner and improve the local environment for our residents.”

The figures include all reported incidents that were cleared by not just council waste contractor Veolia, but also other council departments including housing and parks.
