Croydon Council is set to take out a loan of more than £300 million as part of a "regeneration programme" that will see, among other things, 10,000 new homes built in the area.

At a cabinet meeting tonight (December 11), the plans for the 46 town centre projects which will cost close to £520m will be presented to council.

If the projects get the go-ahead, 23,594 new jobs will be created, plus a further 5,097 jobs during the construction phase.

Councillor Alison Butler is excited to see Croydon grow as a result of the projects.

“Croydon’s rapid growth is evident and our town is continually building on its reputation as the place to be," she said.

"This wide range of exciting infrastructure projects will help ensure this growth and major development activity in the town centre is sustained to the benefit of all.”

The 46 projects fall under five categories: Transport, public realm and culture, energy, parking and construction logistics.

Projects include proposed changes to the road layout at Fiveways, a scheme which would see parking spaces become spaces for people and new the construction of a new district heating and power plant.
