A "dedicated and enthusiastic" scout, 12-year-old Owain Jones has has been rewarded for going above and beyond for his troop.
As a Patrol Leader, Owain, who attends the 7th Purley Scout Group has led his patrol successfully on a number of occasions including winning the annual Patrol Trophy and achieving successes in district and county events.
He even completed a 30km orienteering challenge which saw him achieve his Chief Scout's Gold Award.
Most recently, Owain was presented with £250 at the Jack Petchey Foundation Achievement Awards.
"Congratulations to all of the winners and their leaders and parents – they must be so proud, as am I," Mayor of Croydon Toni Letts said.
"These young people have really made a difference and have challenged themselves to achieve something and it is fantastic that they have been recognised – and this is thanks to their peers and the mechanism provided by the Jack Petchey Foundation.
"I have had a wonderful evening celebrating what young people are able to achieve and offer their communities and they should be very proud.”
So what did Owain do with his £250? He put it right back into his troop in the form of new tents.
