Croydon FC has launched a borough-wide drive to attract a new generation of fans to the Croydon Arena.

The Trams are leaving no stone unturned as the club continues to make progress on and off the pitch.

Now the club is hoping to build on that success and highlight the grassroots game from which it is built with its Non-League Day event.

“There is a fresh energy within the club," chairman of Croydon FC Martin Burr said.

"We have big plans and a really creative team behind the scenes – what we need now is the supporter base to match and push the club on to the next level.”

Activities in the build up to Non-League Day include the opportunity for budding sports writers from all the secondary schools in the borough to take part in a sports journalism competition to write a match report at the game using the Sportswik app.

The competition will be judged by Mark Clemmit of BBC Football Focus and the winning entrant will get the opportunity to further sharpen their journalism skills with a trip to the Wembley press box on a match day.

The winner’s school will also benefit by receiving a sports journalism masterclass from Mark and former FA press manager, Tony Snow, who will also present children with opportunities to get further work experience in sports journalism.

The match against Bearsted FC will take place at the Croydon Arena on October 7 and kick off at 3pm.
