Fans of Ashburton Park have an opportunity to get involved with the popular green space, from shaping its future to simply enjoying the outdoors with family and friends.

Croydon Council has launched a competition to find a new name for the former library building within the park, which is set to reopen as a revamped community and learning hub this summer. New occupier Nisai is to operate an online school from the building, providing live interactive learning and services for students who are unable to attend mainstream schools. The modernised building will also have spaces for hire and a full-time café, within which Nisai will secure apprenticeships and training for young people.

“There are some great opportunities to get involved with one of Croydon’s parks," Councillor Timothy Godfrey said.

"Croydon has fantastic open spaces and we want to make sure they are places our communities enjoy now and in generations to come. Ashburton Park is an important pilot project for us in planning for the future.

The winning name will be selected by a panel comprising local councillors, Friends of Ashburton Park and Nisai. The winner(s) will be invited to join the mayor of Croydon, Councillor Toni Letts, to see their new building name unveiled on July 22. Entrants should email name ideas and the reasons for their suggestions to: elizabeth.collins@croydon.gov.uk by Monday, June 26.
