Balaclava-wearing men storm Caterham sports store
Men in boiler suits and balaclavas have stormed a sports store, tied up terrified staff and taken cash from the till.
Police are appealing for witnesses after two men targeted Sports Direct in Church Walk, Caterham between 6pm and 6.30pm on Sunday, April 22.
The men, both described as white, were wearing blue boiler suits and black balaclavas when they burst into the store, threatened two members of staff and tied them up.
The first is described as 5ft 9ins and in his late 40s or early 50s and of stocky build while the second is 5ft 10inc.
Investigating Officer Detective Constable Kerry Akehurst, said: "This was a frightening ordeal for the two members of staff at the store who were threatened and tied up but fortunately no-one was injured during the incident.
"I am appealing to anyone who has information on this incident or the events surrounding it to contact officers as a matter of urgency as we need to catch those responsible and bring them to justice."
The offenders drove off in a blue transit van later found abandoned in Stuart Road, Warlingham.
Police have stressed they do not believe the incident is linked to an armed robbery in the town centre on Friday afternoon.
Officers have carried out house-to-house enquiries and reassurance visits in the area and the Tandridge Safer Neighbourhood Team urge anyone with concerns surrounding the incident to make contact as they will be happy to address these.
