A birthday party ended in chaos when a mass brawl left a man with a fractured eye socket.

A 21-year-old man was kicked and punched after the 21st birthday party spilled out into the streets in North Cheam in the early hours of Saturday morning.

Party goers from the event at North Cheam Sports and Social Club were met outside by another group when the fight kicked off. The victim, who was attacked near the Goals soccer centre on London Road, was taken to hospital with serious injuries to his face.

Detective constable Derek Young, of Sutton CID, said: "There were a lot of people in the area at the time - so we urge anyone who was there to come forward and tell us what you saw.

"We want to bring those people who carried out this attack before the courts. Serious assaults are rare in Sutton."
