A Croydon café and co-working space which opened three months ago was burgled last night.

Matthews Yard, just off Surrey Street, will be closed until later this morning after it was targeted yesterday.

Police were called to the scene at and it is believed one arrest has been made.

A spokesman for Matthews Yard, which was opened in response to last August's riots, said: "There was an incident, the business will open as usual as soon as possible later today."

A police spokesman said: "Police were called to a coffee shop in Surrey Street at approximately 05:30hrs this morning to reports of burglary after an alarm had been set off.

"Police attended and a 23 year old man was arrested on suspicion of burglary.

"He currently remains in police custody at this time. Officers from Croydon's Burglary Squad are investigating and enquiries continue."
