Rest your head at home with Croydon cushion
8:37am Wednesday 4th July 2012 in Business News By Hannah Williamson
A unique cushion featuring images of various Croydon landmarks is going under the hammer.
The one-off 'London Borough of Croydon'-themed cushion, is covered in sketches of famous sites from around the borough including the flyover, Fairfield Halls and the Nestle tower - formerly St George's House.
The cushion was made by Hunted and Stuffed which produce handmade cushions, upcycled from original vintage tea towels.
Owner Ellie Laycock started the business while on maternity leave, to make use of her love of hunting for vintage textiles.
The 37-year-old said: "I am always on the look out for tea towels that have a near original design, which I buy and then upcycle into a cushion.
"People buy tea towels and then they throw them out, this way they have a new lease of life.
"The Croydon cushion is the only one I have made that features a specific area. The rest are more general.
"When I saw this design I thought it would be great to make something that would celebrate the area, especially after last year's riots."
The mum-of-one who also works as a professional photographer said she would love the Croydon cushion to go to someone who lives in the area.
She said: "I do a lot of bespoke things for customers, I know there is someone out there for each of my cushions, it's a bit like match making.
"My ideal customer for this cushion would be someone that lives in Croydon and wants to have this original design in their home."
To bid for the London Borough of Croydon vintage cushion visit ebay.co.uk and enter item number 251099288723. The auction ends of July 9.
