The London Assembly Member for Lambeth and Southwark raised fears of a ‘police black hole’ as she questioned the Mayor yesterday over rumours of police station closures.

During question time, Valerie Shawcross asked when plans for London’s police would be made public and how many front counters would be closed.

Mayor Boris Johnson said his office for policing and crime were working on a consultation document, but did not say when it would be made public.

Ms Shawcross said: "The problem is that so far, no actual clear information has been issued about what is actually being proposed, which is causing great anxiety.

"It’s time for the Mayor to get a grip and end the confusion and anxiety."

She said rumours were rife over services closing at Gipsy Hill, Dulwich and South Norwood police station.

Front counters remain temporarily closed at Gipsy Hill, Clapham and Cavendish Road police stations 'to boost uniformed police on the streets'.
