A regeneration project which will provide the borough with new sporting facilities in the wake of the Olympics “is starting to take shape”.

The Streatham Hub development will see an ice-rink, leisure centre, swimming pool a new Tesco store open in Streatham High Road.

There will also be 250 new homes, with the projected expected to be completed by 2013.

Eight new bus stands were revealed this week, which are located next to Streatham Railway Station.

Transport for London will initially use the facility for parking buses between journeys, but passengers will soon be able to get on and off buses at the stop too.

Lambeth Council confirmed this week the project is on track to be completed by next year, with teh council contributing £19.42m towards the scheme.

Councillor Lib Peck said: "After so many years planning it’s fantastic that the Streatham Hub scheme is now starting to take shape.

"Despite the unpredictably wet weather over the summer, work is progressing well and the new buildings are starting to rise from the ground, which is great to see.

"In the midst of a recession this is a huge achievement. It adds up to the biggest expansion of leisure provision in the borough’s history and a fantastic sporting legacy for Lambeth for the 2012 Games."
