Late-night cramming and revision paid off for many students opening their GCSE results at Dunraven and other schools across Streatham this morning.

Martha Alexander, in the Dunraven playground, said she and her parents were unable to sleep last night because of the nerves.

Miss Alexander, who got a mixture of As, Bs and Cs, said: "I am so happy. I was so scared and the build up makes it even worse.

"It’s nice to get it over with."

Nicole Bosher, 16, also felt happy after finding out she got mainly As and Bs as well as some Cs and a D.

Miss Bosher said: "I was really worried about looking at my results. I thought I had done really badly."

Meanwhile Saeedul Islam, 16, hoped his eight A* and two A grades would help him on the road to possibly study tropical medicine.

Mr Islam said: "I was a bit apprehensive, but it came out good. It was a lot of hard graft, but it was worth it in the end."

Dunraven School saw record results with 73 per cent gaining five A* - C grades including Maths and English and 98 per cent gaining five A* - C passes.

Deputy Principal Steve Parsons said: "As a school we are extremely pleased to have again achieved out best yet results.

"Year after year students work hard and prove they are as good as students anywhere in the country."

Meanwhile Elmgreen School had its first set of GCSE results with 58 per cent five A* - C grades with Maths and English and 84 per cent five A* - C passes.

Nigel Rogers, chairman of governors, said: "I am incredibly proud of all of our students who have done so brilliantly well in their GCSEs.

"These results are a great tribute to all of their hard work and the enthusiasm and dedication of their teachers and school staff."

Students at Lambeth Academy were also celebrating today with 54per cent five A*- C grades including Maths and English and 82 per cent gaining five A* - C passes.

Principal of Lambeth Academy Jan Shadick said: "I congratulate all our students on their achievements today and look forward to welcoming many of them to our Sixth Form."
