A post-mortem examination into the cause of death of Tia Sharp is due to resume this afternoon.

The 12-year-olds body was found in the loft of her grandmother's house in The Lindens, New Addington last Friday.

The discovery came a week after the schoolgirl was reported missing.

Her grandmother's partner Stuart Hazell, 37, has been charged with her murder.

He appeared at the Old Bailey yesterday and will reappear at the court on November 19.

An inquest into Tia's death opened at Croydon Coroners Court this morning.

During the brief hearing Detective Sergeant Eric Sword confirmed the body had been formally identified as Tia's.
