Thousands of A-Level students across the borough will be getting their results today and although many will get their preferred choice, others will have just missed out on their target grades.

Here is some advice if you didn’t get the results you wanted. Check with your first choice university to see if they will still accept you. Some universities may still take to those who didn’t meet their requirements or they could offer an alternative course.

If you didn’t get into your first choice university, check to see if you have been accepted by your insurance choice. If you do not meet the conditions of any of the offers you have accepted and the university/universities cannot offer you a place you will be automatically entered into Clearing.

Clearing is a service that can help people without a university or college place to find suitable vacancies on higher education courses.

You can track your progress on the UCAS website, make sure you press the Add Clearing Choice button. Speak to as many universities as you can, and try to speak to them yourself. It makes a good impression. For more advice on what to do in clearing go to www.ucas.ac.uk/students/nextsteps/clearing/todo. If you got better grades than you expected you can try and apply to other universities through the track system on UCAS.
